Have you heard the buzz about green or eco-jewelry? Are you concerned about chemicals in the studio? Are your customers asking you questions that you can’t answer about your materials? This class will give you the information you need to green your jewelry studio and meet the changing needs of your customers, as they demand more ethically sourced materials. Learn where precious metals and gems come from, about green suppliers, and what you can do to promote healthy mining practices. Learn how to respond to customers’ questions about the sourcing and sustainability of your materials. Plus learn about safe, less-toxic alternatives for your studio. Class includes creating an action plan to green your studio and more. Open to all levels. 3 hours

Learn this dramatic, yet simple, Korean surface technique of bonding thin pure gold to silver. In just one day your expert instructor will guide you through every step in the process of preparing the silver, by depletion silvering, and then applying pure gold through heat and pressure. Keum-boo offers beautiful textural and graphic possibilities, opening a whole palette of effects to explore, as well as enhancing the perceived value of silver jewelry. Roller printing, patinas and finishing techniques will be covered as well a information on how to bond gold to fine silver and Argentium. Students fabricate dangle earrings in sterling silver, embellished with pure gold surface patterns. Basic experience with a torch required. 6 hours

Cold Construction: Rivets, Tabs, and Connections - Sun.-Tue. June 3-5 - 9:00am-5:30pm- Hyatt Lakeshore B
Here's your chance to learn how to make professional rivets and other cold constructions to assemble both precious metals and alternative materials. Learn the fundamental skills required to make simple, flush, countersunk, ball, swing, and tube rivets. Watch as your expert instructor demonstrates the process for making jigs and spacers, plus tips and tricks for accurate layout, drilling, and counter-sinking. Then learn to construct with tabs and tab hinges. Instruction includes step-by-step methods for creating a multi-layered pendant with basic and advanced cold joining techniques. 18 hours

Texture It! - Wed. June 6 - 8:00am-3:00pm (with 1 hr. break) - Hyatt Lakeshore B
Add exciting and fun textures to the surfaces of your work. Learn a wide range of ways to add depth, color, texture, patterns, and drama with techniques including roller printing, embossing, subtraction, hammering, stamping, punching, patinas and more. Make a “surface sampler” book of textures in copper to keep for reference in your studio. Open to all levels. 6 hours
