2008 Masters Symposium
with David Yurman
| April 27-29, 2009 from 9 am - 5 pm | $999 |

Creativity has energy; it propels us forward. Creativity is an essential element in designing and making jewelry. From spark to market and back again, the complete designer employs creativity as a key to open doors and solve problems.
Here is a unique opportunity to work with David Yurman, whose creativity has had a legendary impact on jewelry design. For the first time, David will lead a small group through a series of projects and exercises to demonstrate and enhance creativity. “I intend to impart my knowledge of creative exploration as applied to the origin, the technical and engineering feasibility of a design, all the way through marketing to the consumer.”
This is an interactive workshop with daily assignments and hands-on practice. Watch and learn as David demonstrates how to design from an initial sketch. Listen as David explains how to approach engineering, resourcing, production, marketing, and retailing. Then you get a chance to develop a concept, to design a product or collection and also begin to develop engineering and production plans as well as marketing and business plans. David will share his philosophy and experience using practical examples of the entire design process - from the initial inspiration through marketing to the customer. Open to all levels.

David Yurman discovered what would be his life calling while in high school, sculpting jewelry and later working as an apprentice for renowned sculptors Jacques Lipshitz and Theodore Rozack. Through creative exploration, David refined and developed his art, and began presenting his creations at juried craft shows. In 1980 David and his wife Sybil, herself a brilliant painter, brought their combined talents to the mainstream and created what has become an iconic jewelry brand.
Looking back, it is hard for David to believe that this all started in 1969 when he created a belt for his then girlfriend, Sybil. Working together, their mutual support has brought them to where they are today. The result is a brand that, with 20 boutiques and over 400 authorized points of distribution worldwide, has been able to successfully fuse art, fashion and fine jewelry. David’s passionate dedication remains along with his commitment to crafting jewelry with the utmost detail and with the finest materials.
David and Sybil Yurman have each been recipients of lifetime achievement awards in the jewelry industry. And in 2001, with the ability to give back, David and Sybil founded their namesake Yurman Humanitarian Foundation that unites their achievements to a lifelong commitment to the arts and education.
