All mechanisms are based on five simple machines: The wheel, lever and fulcrum, inclined plane, screw, and wedge. As the basis for movement and jewelry mechanisms, students learn a number of basic, yet largely unexplored mechanical movements including these specific projects: a classic cylinder plunger clasp in a cable bracelet with a stainless steel compression spring, a wedge barrel catch, and a Knuckle Adjuster Ring. Techniques covered include a wide range of essential skills such as tube rivets, jigs and springs, brazing sterling silver to stainless steel, use of the hydraulic press with blanking dies, casting clean up, measuring tips and more. Prerequisite: Fabrication 2 or experience. 24 hours
