Instructor: Hratch Nargizian

Hand engraving is the oldest technique used to carve an image onto metal. Engraving can be superficial, like monograms and ornamental patterns, or deep, leaving a relief in the metal. By using “gravers,” which are specialized steel push chisels, an engraver cuts a variety of shapes into the surface of a softer metal. Lean over the master’s shoulder as you learn how to prepare and use the most essential gravers. Watch as your instructor demonstrates the basic cuts that are the foundation of ornamental, pictorial and letter engraving. And then practice these techniques as you are guided by the instructor.
